Shubhman Gill has been injured for a long time now and has not yet recovered. At the same time, Washington Sundar has taken an injury to his Right-hand bowling finger. With all medical attention, their recovery will be a long process. Therefore, they would not be seen in the entire series.

The BCCI proposed Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav as the replacements of Shubhman Gill and Washington Sundar. The All India Senior Selection Committee suggested their names. Both of them are present in Sri Lanka, with the team which Shikhar Dhawan leads.

They will be sent to England to join team A of India. Abhimanyu Easwaran has also been added to the main team as a replacement for Avesh Khan. Easwaran was a standby, but now he will be in the main squad.

Avesh had injured his thumb during practice. Due to the dire condition of fracture, Avesh will be sent back to India. Some other names like Devdutt Padikal and Jayant Yadav were also suggested. But the final confirmation was done by Shaw and Suryakumar.  Rishabh Pant has also returned two negative RT-PCR tests that mean he would also be joining practice soon. Other covid affected players like Eshwsran and Saha with bowling coach Arun have completed their isolation and will be joining the squad soon.
